This refers to the editorial, ‘Out of food’ (March 15). The future really looks bleak if a comprehensive plan to avert the impending food crisis is not immediately put on the anvil and executed forthwith. Water, as the editorial points out, is the area to be addressed first. Water resources available in the country need to be utilised prudently.
This implies conservation of available river water by building more dams. The Kalabagh Dam should no longer be allowed to remain a bone of contention between the centre and provinces. Blocking such projects of vital significance for the survival of human life is inhuman as well as unpatriotic. The government should spare no pains to convince the dissenting provinces. Prospects for more dams should also be explored without further delay.
