An accountability court (AC) on Thursday issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of three accomplices of under-detention former federal minister and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader, Dr Asim Hussain.
The court, which was hearing cases against Dr Hussain and others pertaining to money laundering and illegal possession of land, was told that three people wanted for interrogation – Abdul Majeed, Syed Athar Hussain and Masood Haider – were in hiding. The AC ordered that the cases of three men be separated and issued NBWs for their arrests.
As for Dr Hussain, who was not brought for the hearing on account of his illness, a medical certificate submitted in court mentioned that the ex-minister was suffering from severe depression and, hence, could not attend yesterday’s hearing.
The court was informed on behalf of prison authorities that Dr Hussain had been advised complete rest.
Further orders issued by the court related to provision of copies of the reference to two other co-accused, Ejaz Chaudhry and Akhtar Hussain, and also Dr Hussain’s attorneys.
At present, the former minister is facing trial in two cases; a corruption reference containing various charges being heard in the AC, and another case in an anti-terrorism court pertaining to provision of shelter and treatment to criminals and terrorists.
