Action against 6,000 terror suspects started

ISLAMABAD: To implement the National Action Plan (NAP) for eliminating terrorism, the government has prepared a list of over 6,000 extremists affiliated with banned outfits for a crackdown against them.
Under the NAP, names of the terrorists have been included in the Fourth Schedule of the Anti-Terrorism Act 1977. Intelligence agencies, police and paramilitary forces will arrest these extremists.
Action has been initiated against more than 3,000 suspects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), while orders have been issued to nab 2,200 suspected terrorists in the Punjab. Names of 539 people in Sindh were included in the watchlist and action is underway against them. Orders to arrest 462 extremists in Balochistan, 59 in Islamabad and 39 in Gilgit-Baltistan have been issued.
The Punjab government has registered cases against 540 people over illegal use of loudspeaker.In Islamabad, 115 people have been held. Cases have been lodged against 176 people for illegal use of loudspeakers.
In Balochistan, the Frontier Corps has started taking the extremists into custody from the areas of Zhob, Qila Saifullah, Ziarat, Kohlo and Quetta.Directives have been made for the suspected terrorists and extremists, included in the watchlist, to appear at the nearest police station. Under the ATA, a person whose name has been included in the Schedule 4 will have to appear at the police station on a weekly basis and his movement will be limited.
