KARACHI: The office-bearers of Marta Women Football Club have congratulated newly-elected FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
In a press release issued on Sunday, the club’s patron-in-chief Pirzada Ajmal Farooqui said that the new chief of the world football governing body was the right person for the job and he hoped that the 45-year-old would deliver.
He said that Infantino’s pledge to promote women football in the world was a welcome sign. “It will help the South Asian countries in particular where women football needs support,” Farooqui said.
The club’s secretary Rais Khan said that women players also needed attention and recognition.
“I hope the new president will keep his promise and help promote women football as well,” he said.
