LONDON: MQM chief Altaf Hussain appealed the government to ban Jamaat-e-Islami, claiming that more than 50 percent of Taliban and al-Qaeda men were arrested from the houses of the JI leaders.
According to a statement issued here Tuesday, Altaf told JI chief Sirajul Haq not to make nation fool in the name of Islam, adding that holy Quran and Hadiths give right of self-defence first. “Religious parties had opposed the formation of Pakistan and spoke ill of Quaid-i-Azam. Altaf also demanded the government to arrest those leaders who speak against soldiers.
Altaf also condemned the killing of party worker Raees Alam. He said MQM workers were being killed left, right and centre with Sindh government not paying attention to the matter. He lamented that despite the ongoing operation against terrorist elements in the city, outlawed organisations were targeting citizens at will. MQM chief condoled with the murdered worker’s family and prayed to Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in peace.
Raees Alam was a worker of the MQM unit 131 Qasba Aligarh Sector. He was shot dead by unknown gunmen within the limits of Pirabad Police Station in Qasba Colony, Orangi Town. —Online
News Desk adds: The coordination committee of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, responding to some comments by the Jamaat-e-Islami, said that rather than accusing the MQM, the JI should tell the nation about relations with the Taliban and ISIS.
In a statement, the Coordination Committee said it was a fact that the top Al-Qaida terrorists were arrested “in the houses of JI leaders”. It said that JI workers, along with Taliban, Al-Qaida and other terrorists’ organisations, “carried out terrorist activities in the country and in foreign territories”.
The committee alleged that the “trained JI terrorists had been involved in the attack on the Corps Commander of Karachi, GHQ, Sri Lankan team and attacks on army offices”. It said that was the reason “JI terrorists, along with Taliban and Al-Qaida terrorists”, were killed in drone attacks in tribal areas.
The Coordination Committee said that former JI chief Manawar Hassan had termed the Taliban and other terrorists killed by the soldiers as martyrs while the soldiers killed in the war on terror not martyrs.
