Pemra imposes Rs3m fine on 17 channels in three months
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) has imposed fine worth Rs3 million to various satellite channels for violations of code of conduct since December 1, 2015.
An official source said Thursday that fines had been imposed on 17 television channels including Samaa TV, Din News, ARY News, Ab Takk, Value TV, News One, Channel 24, Geo News, TV One and Royal TV.
Advice letters were issued to 26 channels including Aaj TV, Dunya TV, Express Tv, Geo News, Neo TV, Rose TV, Waqt TV, Geo Super, PTV Sports, and Ten Sports.
He said that warnings had been issued to six channels including Express TV, Aaj TV, Rose TV and ARY News while show cause notices were issued to 18 television channels which included Ab Takk, Channel 24, 92 News, Din News, Express TV, Geo Kahani, Neo TV, Royal TV, Samaa TV, TV One, and ARY News which was issued five show cause notices.
From December 1 till date 49 complaints have been registered against various TV channels. Maximum number of complaints have been registered against ARY News, which are ten. Against Geo News seven complaints were lodged while five complaints have been registered against Ab Takk TV, and four against Channel 24. Besides one warning and seven advice letters were issues to all news and current affairs channels collectively.
