NAB files corruption reference against women development secy

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Tuesday filed a reference in the accountability court against the secretary of women development department, Badar Jameel Mendhro, and other officials for committing massive misappropriation of funds.

According to the reference, secretary Badar Jameel Mendhro minted million of rupees as a result of his alleged corruption. It stated that she was able to commit corruption with the assistance of accused Shehbaz Soomro, Muhammad Farooq and Faheemuddin.

Two of the accused, Muhammad Farooq and Faheeuddin, are absconding while Badar Jameel Mendhro and Shehbaz Soomro have obtained interim bail.

The court accepted the reference and issued directions to begin a trial.

Man jailed

Meanwhile, an accountability court awarded 11-years imprisonment to Ali Ahmed who had fooled people into giving him huge sums of money which he promised to return after double.

The prosecution proved that Ali Ahmed had fleeced people of their money promising to return to them twice the amount he had received. However, the Investigation Officer (IO) told the court that after getting the money, Ali Ahmed refused to return it to the people.  The court announced 11 years imprisonment against the accused as punishment.
