Dolly Parton is mourning the loss of her dear friend and 9 to 5 co-star Dabney Coleman, who passed away on May 16 at the age of 92.

Taking to her X (previously Twitter) on Monday, May 20, the Queen of Country shared a special tribute to the late actor.

“Dabney was a great actor and he became a dear friend,” Parton, 78 began in her message.

She then remembered his mentorship during the early days of her acting career, particularly on the 1980 comedy 9 to 5, which followed three secretaries, played by Parton, Jane Fonda, and Lily Tomlin, who take revenge on their tyrannical boss, portrayed by Coleman.

“He taught me so much when I was doing my first movie, 9 to 5,” she reminisced.

The Jolene hitmaker then fondly recalled Coleman’s many cherished qualities, saying, “He was funny, deep and smart.”

Parton continued, “We remained friends through the years and I will miss him greatly as many people will.”

The note – written in white ink over a black background – concluded with Parton’s love and signature.

Their other 9 to 5 co-star Lily Tomlin also previously shared her condolences on social media.

Coleman’s daughter, Quincy Coleman, released a statement about her father’s passing, noting his six-decade career that included more than 60 projects.

“My father crafted his time here on Earth with a curious mind, a generous heart and a soul on fire with passion, desire and humor that tickled the funny bone of humanity,” Quincy said.

She described him as “a teacher, a hero and a king,” whose spirit will live on through his work and legacy.
