Kevin Costner gets emotional as ‘Horizon’ earns standing ovation
Kevin Coster’s western epic ‘Horizon’ bags 7-minutes worth of Cannes standing ovation
Kevin Coster couldn’t seem to control his emotions as his movie Horizon: An American Saga held him up at Cannes on Sunday, earning a seven-minute standing ovation.
Costner clearly got emotional as the movie received huge appreciation and chants of “Kevin! Kevin! Kevin!”
Costner thanked the audience during his speech, and promised “three more” installments of the Horizon franchise, the first one due to get a sequel in August.
“I’m sorry you had to clap that long for me to understand that I should speak,” Costner said to laughter.
“Such good people. Such a good moment, not just for me, but for the actors that came with me, for people who believed in me who continued to work. It’s a funny business, and I’m so glad I found it. There’s no place like here. I’ll never forget this — either will my children.”
The two-part video explores the growth of the American West from the viewpoints of the Native Americans who first inhabited the area as well as cattle ranchers, farmers, and soldiers securing their futures there.
For Costner, who invested a significant portion of his own wealth—including mortgaging his ranch—in order to produce the picture, it is an incredibly personal undertaking. In addition to producing and co-writing the movie, he also stars in it.
