Sabrina Carpenter recently opened up about the lyrics to her new song Espresso.
The song that serves as a follow-up to her hit 2022 album Emails I Can’t Send and recent singles Nonsense and Feather, is actually about embracing confidence every step of the way as Sabrina dubbed in an interview with Vogue.
Speaking exclusively to Apple Music about Espresso, the popstar revealed how she planned on creating a song that had a combination of both; spontaneity and humour.
She explained: “There was something really exciting about the fact that there was so much personality throughout the entire song, because those are the ones that are really, really fun to sing live with a crowd.”
“Those are the ones that people, I think when they don’t know my music or who I am or anything, they can just tune in to a single song and kind of leave with a better idea of my sense of humour.”
Resonating with her song, the actress sought to capture the time when she felt her confidence was sky-rocketing.
“This was one of those times in my life where I just thought I was the shit in the moment. And I think you don’t always feel that way, so you kind of have to capture those moments that you do because that’s how you find those little [gems],” she added.
Citing references to the satisfaction of being addicted to someone in a relationship, Carpenter belted out lyrics in the subtlest way.
She sang in the chorus: “Now he’s thinkin’ about me every night / Is it that sweet? I guess so / Say you can’t sleep, baby, I know / That’s that me, espresso / Move it up, down, left, right, oh / Switch it up like Nintendo”.
For the unversed, Espresso released on April 11, and has netted several records since.
