Bradley Cooper has a memorable experience as he pitched the idea for his hit 2018 romance musical, A Star Is Born.
The Maestro star, 49, recalled meeting the Single Ladies hitmaker, 42, and her husband Jay-Z, 54, to suggest the role of Ally, an aspiring singer in the movie, before the role went to Lady Gaga.
“I went to Beyoncé’s house, and Jay-Z was watching Judge Judy, I still remember,” he said during an interview for SAG-AFTRA Foundation.
“I’m not kidding. And I was freaking [out]. I remember I had this weird cough when I was pitching it to her.”
He continued, “It was crazy. She was incredible and so was he, and we developed it for like a year together. I mean, she's one of the greatest people of all time. Then that fell through.”
Beyoncé reportedly stepped out of the role due to her pregnancy in 2017.
Cooper said he then envisioned Adele for the role, but she only texted him back once and was “busy.”
Cooper that shared that he heard Gaga, 37, sing at a benefit concert and it “just blew the doors off of the whole place.”
He shared that it was “in that moment where it was like, ‘That's it. What was I even thinking?’ And then I asked to meet her.”
Cooper ended up directing the film and playing country singer Jackson ‘Jack’ Maine.
