Sindh Wind Corridor can help Pakistan overcome its energy crisis, says US CG
SUKKUR: US Consul-General Grace Shelton visited the Sindh Wind Corridor in Jhampir, Thatta, on Thursday.
The consul-general visited the Sapphire Wind Power Project, the USAID grid station and the Keenjhar Lake. “The Sindh Wind Corridor shows the vital role renewable energy can play in helping Pakistan solve its energy crisis,” said Grace Shelton.
“The United States continues to strongly support Pakistan’s efforts to expand clean energy to foster economic development.”
At the Sapphire Wind Power Project, she learnt from the Site Manager, Danish Hanif, how the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) had funded and contributed to 50 megawatts of renewable energy to Pakistan’s national grid.
The National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) grid station is also the site of a major US government support. USAID’s support of $43 million will facilitate the creation of a 680-megawatt link.
While visiting the Keenjhar Lake, Pakistan’s second largest fresh water lake, Consul-General Shelton appreciated the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and the work they have done for wildlife conservation and sustainable economic development.
