Rawalpindi: The representatives of All Pakistan Hydro Electrical Labor Union (APHELU) have lauded the upgradation of 120,000 Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) employees besides payment of one month bonus to them.

The general secretary of APHELU, Khurshid Ahmed, regional president , Javed Baloch, Zahir Shah, vice chairman, Raja Khalil Ashraf , Tariq Niazi while addressing a meeting of workers held at Iesco Office, Mareer Hassan here Wednesday hoped that the remaining 25,000 employees will also be upgraded soon.

They thanked the Iesco General Manager (Operations) Kaleem Khan, and Superintendent, Omar Farooq Shah for their efforts in this regard.

They appealed to the government for making the power tariff cheaper in the best interest of the consumers. They also called upon the government for abolishing all kind of taxes included in the electricity bills. They said if the government acts upon their demand then the charges of power tariff would become cheaper which would be in the limits of consumers to pay their electricity bills.  The union leaders also urged the government for ending power loadshedding in the country on permanent basis.

They urged the government for making Wapda a state unit while abolishing all kind of other power bodies. Giving reason, they said during the functioning of Wapda as a single state unit, the power tariffs were fair and cheaper. “Similarly Wapda was generating huge revenue for the government. However, after formation of Iesco, Pesco etc the entire system got complicated resulting in hike in power tariff proving a burden for the consumers to pay their electricity bills,” they claimed.
