VC says 30 FC personnel to perform duty at watch towers

CHARSADDA: Vowing to extend all possible help to boost the security of the Bacha Khan University, a top official of the Education Department here Wednesday lauded its administration and students for reopening the institution 26 days after being attacked by the terrorists.

Talking to reporters after visiting the university, Secretary Higher Education Department Farah Hamid said Vice-Chancellor Fazal-ur-Rahim Marwat and security in-charge Ashfaq Ahmed deserved appreciation for reopening the university within a month after the attack.

She said the government was aware of the financial problems of the university and it would cooperate in improving its security arrangements.Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Fazl-ur-Rahim Marwat said the administration was taking steps for foolproof security at the university.

He added that an agreement had been signed with Frontier Constabulary (FC) for provision of 30 personnel who would perform duty at the watch towers along with the university’s security guards.

He said recruitment of retired soldiers was in final stages, adding, the university guards were also being provided training. He said flashlights and CCTV cameras were also being installed in the university.

He said infrastructure worth Rs10 million was destroyed during the January 20 attack. He added that the university had forwarded its demands to the Higher Education Department for enabling it to enhance its security and meet its other needs.
