Karachi
An anti-corruption court (ATC) on Friday issued arrest warrants against provincial secretary education and literacy Dr Fazlullah Pechuho for failing to appear before it in a case pertaining to charges of corruption and misuse of authority in his department.
Brother-in-law of Pakistan Peoples Party co-chairperson and former President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari,
Dr Pechuho was facing an
inquiry initiated by the
National Accountability Bureau (NAB), after it had allegedly gathered evidence of massive corruption in the department.
This was the second time arrest warrants were issued against the provincial secretary as he had previously also failed to appear before an anti-corruption court’s hearing in a case filed by a school’s headmaster, Mohammad Mithal.
Dr Pechuho had, however, claimed that he was not aware of any warrants being issued against him, and added that he was ready to appear before the court if directed to do so.
His name was also placed on the exit-control list in July, last year following the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) inquiry into his involvement in corruption.
