LAHORE

The Lahore High Court disposed of petition of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and the Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed against alleged irregularities in purchase of medicines at Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) of Lahore and directed petitioner to raise the issue before the authority concerned .After conclusion of arguments, Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza on February 9 had reserved the verdict on petition of Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed who is also chairman of Public Accounts Committee of the assembly.

Judge announced the decision on Wednesday and disposed of the petition with direction to the petitioner to approach the forum concerned for redress of his grievance.

Petitioner had alleged that the medical store had been blatantly flouting terms and conditions of the contract by providing medicines to the PIC at excessively higher rates than the prevailing market price.

He also alleged that the medical store management in connivance with government authorities was engaged in such malpractices and misappropriating the taxpayers’ money.

He had requested that the chief minister should hold an inquiry in order to expose the wrong doings of the officials. He had also requested that details of the contract of PIC concluded with the respondent medical store be presented before the PAC for the scrutiny. An assistant advocate general while opposing the petition had submitted that the petitioner was not an aggrieved person and as such his petition was not maintainable.
