Class 9 student gang-raped

A 16-year-old class 9 student was raped by a group of youths  in the limits of Civil Lines police station.

Police have arrested one of the four rapists who was identified as Awais. The other three accused had left their houses to avoid arrests. The girl’s parents have appealed to higher authorities to look into the case and direct the police to round up the remaining three rapists immediately. 

Crane kills man: A 60-year-old man was killed by a crane on Multan Road, near Sabzazar on Sunday.

The old man, yet to be identified, was passing through the Multan Road when a metal piece of a crane hit him.

As a result, he received serious injuries. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police impounded the crane and arrested its driver who was later identified as Waqas. Police shifted the body to morgue.

REUNITED: Punjab Highway Patrol reunited a lost child and helped 352 travellers on highways.The PHP team found a lost child, namely, Waris Ali, son of Amanullah. The patrolling party traced out his relatives and handed over him to his father Amanullah. Meanwhile, PHP helped 352 commuters across the province.

School safety: Punjab Emergency Service Director General reviewed the consolidated reports of School Safety Training and Community Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) trained by Emergency Service Rescue 1122 in the previous year. The data revealed that Emergency Service Rescue 1122 imparted training to 40,840 teachers in 503 teachers training courses during school safety campaign. Besides that 2,635 Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members had been trained to promote safety culture through sensitisation & training at grass root level.

The Head of Community Safety Wing briefed the director general that a significant number of teams were constituted and trained to respond with emergency service in case of any major disaster.

The CERTs had been established at union council level in all districts of Punjab and after enrolment, these volunteers had been trained for Community Action for Disaster Response (CADRE) and Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction (CBDRR).

DG Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) said that Rescue 1122 was working closely with communities to enhance disaster response capacity, risk reduction and prevention of emergencies for the establishment of safer communities in all Districts of Punjab.

He further emphasised on trained teachers at school level and trained Community Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) to promote safety culture by organising joint mock exercises of emergency management in collaboration with Emergency Service Rescue 1122 in peace time so that teachers, students and rescue scouts could be well sensitised about their role and responsibilities in case of any emergency or disaster, he added.
