PEF schools’ exam fee waived

LAHORE

The Punjab government has waived the board registration and examination fee for the students enrolled in secondary schools partnering with Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) in 9thand 10th classes. 

A PEF spokesperson said the Higher Education Department had issued a departmental notification in this regard, adding the step would benefit 1.9 million needy students of PEF partner schools who mostly belonged to low income families.

This decision has been taken on a summary moved by the PEF Chairman Engr Qamar-ul-Islam Raja to Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for extending this facility to the foundation also as it was engaged in providing free education to children of most disfranchised segments of society. After approval of the CM, formal notification has been issued.

Now, Punjab Education Foundation will provide lists of its secondary level students to the boards concerned of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISEs) in Punjab who will provide free registration facility as well as exempting the students from examination fee. Qamar-ul-Islam welcoming the decision termed it ‘education–friendly’ initiative of the Punjab government saying it would directly benefit the penurious strata. 

scholarships: Virtual University (VU) has awarded merit and need-based scholarships among 778 students of the university.

According to a press release, Virtual University announced the scholarship list for its students under the merit and need-based scholarship criteria.

A total of 358 students have been awarded merit scholarships to encourage healthy academic competitions, whereas 420 students received need-based scholarships. he university disbursed total amount of Rs9.8 million among the successful students. Tevta: The future of the country is connected with vast spread of technical education and vocational training (TVET) system.

The dream of progress cannot be realised without provision of skilled workforce.

According to a press release, Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said this during a meeting with Head of Special Monitoring CM Secretariat Aizaz Akhtar and Associate Partner Mckinsey Taimoor Khan here on Thursday.

He further said Tevta was giving special focus on training youths to cater the local and international market needs, adding that all efforts were being made to make Tevta more vibrant institution to produce skilled workforce across the province.

He also said there was a shortage of trained manpower, adding that Tevta was now offering demand-driven short courses for every segment of life and especially for the youth.
