University Town was considered to be one of the best residential areas of Peshawar when it was being managed by the University Town committee. However, under the local government law, the committee was abolished and the area came under the care of the local TMA and nazim. Since then, corruption and inefficiency have transformed it into an ill-planned dump. A few months ago, the construction of an illegal high-rise residential flat started on the Old Bara Road, near the Peshawar International Airport in University Town. The building is being constructed without improving the local facilities or infrastructure for the area. Moreover, no consent was taken from the airport authorities or the residents living in the vicinity.
The building owners and the nazim have all refused to even look into this matter, let alone help. I am requesting the chief minister to stop this illegal construction. The local housing authorities and the TMA should make it mandatory for the owners of new buildings to conduct surveys of the basic and natural facilities of areas so that relevant infrastructure can be developed before they are allowed to sell any apartments.
