The Military College of Signals (MCS), the constituent college of NUST, organised an open house and job fair for its graduating batch of electrical & software engineers here on Thursday.
The main objective of the event was to showcase the final-year projects of the graduating students before the industry and provide an opportunity to industrial experts to interact with young engineers in order to facilitate the hiring process.
The event was attended by Syed Abdul Qadir, chairman of the Pakistan Engineering Council, Signal Officer-in-Chief Major General Sohail Abbas Zaidi, Deputy IG (C&IT) Major General Hafeez Ur Rehman, NUST Pro-Rector Academics Dr. Asif Raza and Major General (r) Shahzada Alam Malik, HI(M), as well as industrial experts, including senior engineers and executives from both public and private sectors. The guests were received by Major General Ali Farhan, commandant of the MCS.
Graduating students displayed more than 60 project stalls to exhibit a broad spectrum of practically and commercially viable telecommunication and software projects. Leading business practitioners and professionals from corporate industry had set up their recruitment booths. They shared their organisational requirements with graduating students and conducted follow-up interviews. The visiting industrialists greatly appreciated the high degree of innovation demonstrated in the projects.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest, Syed Abdul Qadir, appreciated the efforts of students and praised the faculty and administration of MCS for delivering high quality engineers to the industry. He said that engineering plays a pivotal role in the progress of a nation. Such events reveal that there is no dearth of talent in our country. He added that our youth is translating their inquisitive vision into useful innovations and contributing in provision of solution to society at large.

The open house is a platform for potential employers and graduating students to come closer and share their mutual interests. He applauded the efforts of the faculty in guiding students to present current trends in research and technology in exciting and accessible ‘science-fair’ atmosphere.
