‘Complete child labour survey’

Punjab Labour and Human Resource Minister Raja Ashfaq Sarwar has said authentic facts and figures of child labour in three sectors comprising auto workshops, service stations and petrol stations, hotels and restaurants have been collected by the survey of Bureau of Statistics (BOS) in ten districts of the province including Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Hafizabad, Khanewal, Multan, Okara, Rahim Yar Khan, Gujranwala and Sheikhupura where 15,566 children under the age of 14 years are working at workshops, 4,683 at hotels and restaurants whereas 289 children are involved in child labour at petrol stations and service stations.

These children will be enrolled in government schools and provided stipend, free education along with uniform, books, stationery, shoes and other education facilities in collaboration with literacy and school education department. He stated this while chairing a meeting for elimination of child labour in these three sectors. Labour Secretary Nawazish Ali, Additional Secretary Labour / focal person for the project Adnan Arshad Aulok, Project Director Dr Saeed Wattoo, representatives of BOS and Punjab Urban Unit along with related officers of the Labour Department attended the meeting.
