LAHORE

Rotten and unfit for human consumption meat was sold in Islampura makeshift bazaar while the administration instead of taking action against the vendor by cancelling his registration or imposing a fine just asked him to remove the damaged part from meat and keep on selling it.

The customers in the bazaar raised hue and cry on the sale of substandard meat, the administration suggested them either purchase it or go somewhere else to buy meat. However, it only asked the meat seller to dispose of the damaged part of the meat which vendor removed and keep with him at the backside of the shop. Despite removing that portion of meat, the quality of meat was substandard which may cause health issues to those who consumed it.

Mainly decreasing trend in the prices of all perishable items was recorded this week as compared to last week. The weekly analysis shows the prices of vegetables are mainly reduced while fruits increased. However, open overcharging was witnessed in the weekly makeshift markets of the city which are currently operational as Ramazan-cum-Sunday bazaars as well where the administration remained focused on the existing stalls of the Ramazan bazaar established for a month.

As the focus of the one month permanent stalls, the vendors got full advantage of it and overcharged the consumers. The government has completely failed to control price-hike and overcharging where buyers are at the mercy of vendors and prices are skyrocketed.
