KP NAB obtains two-day remand of industrialist

PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Wednesday obtained two-day physical remand of Noorul Hassan, owner of Ahmad Steel Re-rolling Industry, Gadoon Amazai Industrial Estate, for wilfully defaulting electricity bills worth Rs30.3 million, causing huge loss to the national exchequer. 

The remand was granted by accountability court headed by judge Azhar Khan. The NAB prosecutor stated that the accused owns three industries namely M/s Afandi Steels, M/s Ghazi Steels and Ahmad Steel Re-rolling industry. He said the accused wilfully defaulted electricity bills for several years. Despite several notices, he said, the accused deliberately refused to clear his dues.

A statement said the NAB had decided to take to task all the big fish who deviously and wilfully defaulted electricity bills. An MoU has been signed between NAB and Ministry of Water and Power to recover dues to tune of Rs65 billion from the defaulters of Tesco & Pesco. The bureau claimed that further inquiry is being actively pursued by the NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. “Around 100 big fish are being looked into and more arrests of the electricity defaulters are on the cards.”
