Turkish defence minister calls on COAS
RAWALPINDI: Turkish Minister of National Defence Fikri Isik called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif on Friday at the GHQ, says an ISPR press release. During the meeting, matters of mutual interest including regional security and defence collaboration came under discussion. Turkish defence minister appreciated Pakistan Army’s accomplishments in Operation Zarb-e-Azb and contributions towards regional peace and stability.
Afghan consul calls on governor

PESHAWAR: Afghan Consul General Dr Abdullah Waheed Pohan called on Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra at Governor’s House on Friday. He remained with the governor for some time and discussed with him matters of mutual interest, with particular reference of Afghan refugees in the province and situation in the region.During the meeting, the governor apprised the Afghan consul general about the steps being taken to ensure the provision of the facilities to Afghan refugees and assured him that all possible facilities would be provided them.
PP-240 by-elections on July 14
ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to hold by elections in PP 240 (D.G Khan I) on July 14 and issued schedule. According to spokesman of ECP the nomination papers will be filed on June 9 and 10 whereas the verification process will be completed on June 14. The candidates can file their appeals to the tribunals against the decisions of the returning officers till June 16 and tribunals would decide on their appeals till June 20, he said. The candidates can withdraw their nomination papers until June 22 and on the next day the final list of candidates will be published, he added. Polling will be held on July 14, he maintained.

GUJRANWALA: The FIA arrested an alleged human trafficker in Sialkot on Friday. The FIA team raided and arrested the accused Fahad Naveed. He was involved in sending people abroad illegally.
Peace body member escapes attempt on life

MINGORA: A member of a pro-government peace body on Friday escaped an attempt on his life in the Kabal tehsil of the Swat district, police officials said.They said that unidentified miscreants opened fire on a member of village defencecommittee Fazal Wadood in Koza Bandai area in Kabal but he remained safe. The accused managed to escape unchallenged. The security forces clamped a curfew in the area soon after the incident and started a search operation. Several suspected persons were arrested during the search. Meanwhile, the tourists and local people faced hardship due to through search at various checkposts that led to long queues of vehicles on various roads.
