Mostly hot and dry weather will persist in most parts of the country with light rain and gusty winds in upper regions at isolated places during June.

Director General Pakistan Meteorological Department Dr. Ghulam Rasool told APP that light rain in pockets with gusty winds is expected in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujrawala, Malakand and Hazara Divisions etc. after an interval of almost one week during the month, while severe heat conditions will continue elsewhere in the country.

He informed that pre-monsoon is expected in last week of June adding that first half of the Ramazan would be hot and dry while mercury would likely to fall in the second half.

Regarding crops, he informed that there is no threat of any negative symptoms on crops as there is enough water in dams and rivers to meet the requirements of irrigation.

Currently sugarcane and sunflower crop is in fields he said, adding sugarcane has good resistance for heat and cotton crop is also very small so it does not need enough water.

Farmers who want to sow rice after June 15 has to arrange water through canals, while those who start sowing after pre-monsoon would get water through rains.

RAIN LIKELY DURING 24 HOURS: Dust-thunderstorm with rain is expected at isolated places of Malakand, Hazara, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala divisions, Islamabad, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan in next24 hours.

Whereas mainly very hot and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country during this time span. A seasonal low pressure area lies over north Balochistan with its trough extending north-eastwards.

A shallow westerly wave is likely to affect upper parts of the country during evening/night and likely to move north-eastward in next 18 to 24 hours, an official of Met office told APP.

In last 24 hours weather remained hot and dry in most parts of the country, however rain/thunderstorm occurred at isolated places of Malakand, Gujranwala divisions and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Rainfall recorded during this duration was Kalam 11mm, Sialkot Cantt and Bagrote 01mm. Maximum temperatures recorded on Sunday at Sibbi 48C, Dadu, Moenjodaro, Sukkar, Rohri and Jacobabad 47C, Benazirabad, Larkana, RY Khan 46C, Islamabad 41C, Lahore 42C, Karachi 34C, Peshawar 43C, Quetta 34C, Gilgit 31C, Chitral 33C, Hunza 21C, Muzaffarabad 36C, Murree 27C, Skardu 25C, Faisalabad 41C, Multan 42C, Hyderabad 39C, Dir 35C and Kalat 30C.
