Under the Prime Minister’s Education Sector Reforms Programme, the Capital Administration and Development Division has planned to purchase 70 buses for the government schools and colleges in the Islamabad Capital Territory.

The CADD regulates these educational institutions totalling 422 through the Federal Directorate of Education.

Currently, the FDE schools and colleges are short of buses to the misery of their students, especially those living in far-off areas.

The education reforms programme is watched over by the prime minister’s daughter, Maryam Nawaz through a committee comprising some MNAs and FDE officials.

Under it, the ICT schools are to be upgraded through provision of facilities, including buses, and appointment of teachers.

Of late, Montessori classes were launched in the five selected ICT government schools, including Islamabad Model School for Boys F-8/3, Islamabad Model School for Boys F-7/1, Islamabad Model School for Boys F-10/4, Islamabad Model School for Boys Sohan and Islamabad Model School for Boys Khanna Daak as part of the education reforms programme.

Other government educational institutions of the ICT will have such classes afterwards.

An official in the know said the school buses would be 60-65 seater, diesel-powered ones with the minimum 7,800 engine.

He said the CADD had sought financial and technical proposals from private firms, manufacturers, suppliers and importers for the supply of buses.  The official said the tender committee of the division would oversee the entire exercise.
