Five dead, as many injured in Jhang accident

JHANG: Five people were killed while as many sustained injuries in an accident on Shorkot-Garh Mahraja Road here on Monday.A wagon was carrying passengers to Garh Maharaja from Shorkot when it collided with two bikes coming from opposite direction while crossing River Chenab Bridge. As a result, Tasleem Raza, Ghulam Murtaza and Ibrat Raza died on the spot while Qutab Fareed, Haleema Bibi, Munawar Ali, Imran, Ali Raza, Javed Iqbal and Muhammad Irfan sustained serious injuries and rushed to the THQ Hospital, Shorkot. Later, Javed Iqbal and Muhammad Irfan also succumbed to their injuries when they were being shifted to the Nishtar Hospital, Multan. All the deceased belonged to Fatehpur, Layyah district.

 

Two bombs defused in Charsadda

CHARSADDA: The police on Monday defused two bombs planted at the road leading to the District Police Lines, official sources said.  The sources said that unidentified persons had planted two bombs on the road which leads to the District Police Lines.The police spotted the bombs and called the bomb disposal unit (BDU) for defusing the explosives. The BDU official said that each bomb was 7 kilograms.

 

Pakistan actively fighting global terrorism,

says UN spokesman

UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan is combating international terrorism actively, a UN spokesman said on Monday. Pakistan is actively involved in the fight against global terrorism, spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters at the regular noon briefing. The spokesman was responding to a question from an Indian journalist who asked whether Pakistan was doing enough to go after terrorists.

Noshki admin to submit report on drone attack

QUTTA: The Balochistan government on Monday said it was reviewing all aspects of a drone attack on a vehicle in Mall area of Noshki district and the district management would soon submit its report to the provincial government. In a statement, the spokesman said the provincial government could not immediately issue any statement on the incident.  A team of the district management and Special Branch was engaged in finding out facts about the drone attack that would clear the situation.

 

Murree LG polls on June 14

ISLAMABAD: The ECP has issued schedule for direct election in five union councils of the Municipal Corporation Murree and fixed June 14 as polling day.  The schedule has been announced for Union Council (UC) 3 (Murree City), UC 4 (Ghora Gali), UC 5 (Numbal), UC 6 (Tret) and UC 8 (Charihan), which fall in the Punjab.

 

Two killed, 12 injured in road accident in Khairpur

SUKKUR: Two people were killed in a road accident in Khairpur, while 12 others were injured. Reports said a collision occurred between two coaches at the National Highway, Khairpur, at Hingorija crossing. Two passengers, identified as Zaheer Ahmad and Riaz Ahmad, residents of Attock, were killed, while Yunis, Aurangzeb, Azan Ali, Javed Ali and others were injured. Police shifted the injured and the bodies to Ranipur and Hingorija hospitals. 

 

Man drowns in Khanpur Dam lake

HARIPUR: A man drowned while swimming in the Khanpur dam lake here on Monday. Zakir Hussain, a resident of the Swabi district, visited Khanpur Dam along with his friends. He slipped and fell into deep water while swimming. Later, his body was fished out by the divers.

 

Four killed over petty issue in Nowshera

NOWSHERA: Four persons of a family were killed in an exchange of fire over a petty issue in Pabbi town of the Nowshera district, police sources said on Monday.They said that Sardar Ali and his brother Rahimdad had a minor dispute and exchanged fire on Monday in Katcha Garhi in Chowki Drab in Pabbi.As a result, Rahimdad, his brother Sardar Ali, wife of Sardar Ali, Jehan Taja, and son, Zubair Ali, were killed. Umair Ali sustained critical injuries and was shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar. 

 

DG FIA on leave for unknown reasons

ISLAMABAD: Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director General (DG) has gone on leave for unknown reasons, the sources told this correspondent on Monday. The authorities have given additional charge to additional DG Wajid Zia. The Interior Ministry, however, didn't confirm the report.

British high commissioner meets Ch Nisar

ISLAMABAD: British High Commissioner to Pakistan Thomas Drew called on Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan here on Monday and discussed matters of mutual interest. They also exchanged views on bilateral ties, security issues and collaboration between the two countries in curbing human trafficking and organised crimes. The high commissioner said Pakistan is playing a pivotal role in peace, stability and development of the region.

PTI expels three leaders in Larkana

SUKKUR: PTI has expelled three of its leaders in Larkana district on Monday. Those expelled included two sons of former provincial minister Altaf Hussain Unar for submitting PML-Q tickets during recent local bodies election. PTI Vice Chairman Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi following directives of PTI Chairman Imran Khan has issued a notification and removed the basic membership of Adil Altaf Unar and Adnan Altaf Unar, sons of former provincial minister Haji Altaf Hussain Unar and his nephew Ghulam Umar Unar over violation of rules, regulations and party discipline.

 

Killer gets imprisonment, fine

TOBA TEK SINGH: Pirmahal Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Azfar on Monday awarded life imprisonment and Rs 200,000 fine to a man in a murder case. According to prosecution, Mushtaq Ahmad had murdered Abid Ali over a water issue at Chak 679/20-GB on July 22, 2013.
