Over a dozen hurt as students clash at DUET
Karachi
Around a dozen students sustained injuries during a clash between two student organisations at the Dawood University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) on Thursday.
The clash occurred between the Imamia Students Organisation (ISO) and the Punjabi Students Association (PSA) in the vicinity of the university.
As per a university official, iron rods and motorbike chains were used in the clash, which caused numerous injuries to students.
Talking to The News, a DUET student said the university atmosphere had been tense for the past five to six days as some students associated with these parties had been injured during an earlier clash that occurred last week.
An ISO official claimed that around eight to 10 students affiliated with the organisation were sitting at a stand when over 20 activists of the PSA attacked them from front, while more than 40 others attacked from their backside.
According to him, Irfan, Asif, Ahmed, Habib, Shafaat and others were injured, while three others sustained head injuries and a student sustained wounds on ears, whereas another student was taken to a hospital due to sever injuries.
The ISO official admitted that both parties had fought five to six days ago but claimed that the issue was resolved.
He, however, alleged that the PSA had breached the trust and attacked their activists once again. He added that the ISO members had attacked the PSA in retaliation, during which their activists were also injured.
The News made several attempts to contact PSA but no official was available for a comment. The police also did not confirm any arrests.
