NDMA holds roundtable dialogue 

Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) arranged a roundtable consultative dialogue in collaboration with UN OCHA and Embassy of Republic of Turkey as a prelude to first-ever World Humanitarian Summit (WHS) planned to be held in May 2016 at Istanbul, Turkey, under the auspices of United Nations.

Renowned personalities in the field of humanitarian affairs from Government Departments, UN agencies, foreign missions, donor agencies, civil society, philanthropist organizations participated in the event.

The World Humanitarian Summit (WHS) is an initiative of the United Nations Secretary-General to forge new partnerships and find better ways to meet humanitarian needs. The summit aims at re-inspiring and reinvigorating commitment to humanity, initiate set of concrete actions and commitments for better preparation and response and share innovations and best practices that can help to save lives around the world.

Pakistan, as a member state, with a credible standing in humanitarian crises management is actively participating in WHS to explore opportunity for Pakistan to showcase the achievements for Global viewership and sharing of best practices in the domain of disaster management/ humanitarian response. NDMA will also be hosting a side event in the form of seminar with theme ‘Reaching People in Need; Pakistan’s Experience’, an exhibition fair and innovative marketplace during the summit in Turkey.

 The consultations for WHS roundtable sessions were based on actionable areas identified in UN Secretary General’s Report including Role of Political Leadership to Prevent & End Conflicts, Uphold the Norms that Safeguard Humanity, Leaving No One Behind: A Commitment to Address Forced Displacement, Women & Girls: Catalysing Action to Achieve Gender Equality, Natural Disasters & Climate Change: Managing Risks & Crises, Changing Peoples Life: From Delivering Aid to Ending Need and Humanitarian Financing: Investing in Humanity.

Important conclusions were drawn at the end of the dialogue.
