Islamabad: Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training Muhammad Balighur Rehman on Wednesday asked the Higher Education Commission to ensure the best possible facilities for students with special needs or disability at universities across the country.
“Special people have special needs. It is the responsibility of an educated society to fulfil the needs of such people,” he said.
The minister said since the HEC dealt with public sector universities in the country, it should ensure that the special people’s needs are adequately met on campus.
He said a policy to facilitate special people should be made and shared with all universities and the universities implementing the policy in letter and spirit should be properly recognised and honoured.
The minister directed Allama Iqbal Open University Vice Chancellor Dr. Shahid Siddiqui and Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Chairman Dr. Ikram Ali Malik to draft a proposal for professional development and social welfare of their respective employees, and provision of financial assistance to talented and needy students, and submit it to him for necessary action.
