LAHORE

The female students Wednesday once again proved that they have better aesthetics than boys by clean sweeping all distinctions at the Inter-Universities Flower and Painting Competitions 2016 organised by the Government College University Lahore Horticulture Society (GCU-HS) on the theme of “Three R's: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle’.

According to a press release issued here on Wednesday, the students from different universities, including Lahore College for Women University and University of Education took part in the dry flower and painting competitions to raise awareness among students about the physiological impact of overall physical environment on human beings.

Surprising, all the positions in Fresh Flower (centre), dry flower, T-shirt painting, poster painting and fresh flower (corner) contests were secured by the female participants from different universities.

GCU Botany Alumni Association President Ajmal Raheem, the chief guest at the prize distribution, said it seems that females had better aesthetics sense. However, GCU-HS Adviser Prof Dr Zaheer-ud-Din credited meagre participation of boys to this ‘great achievement’ of female students.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah said that educational institutions including universities should equally focus on the character-building and personality development of the youth besides imparting them quality education and promoting creativity and research. He said GCU put in a lot of its financial and human resources on character-building and personality development of its students which later helped them in their professional fields.

Later, the VC gave away certificates and shields to Iram Iqbal, Ayesha Ghulam Nabi, Wajeeha, Iqra Iqbal, Maryam Abid, Fizza Shahzad and Darakshan for securing distinctions in the various categories of flower and painting competitions.
