Man killed in ‘encounter’

A 27-year-old man was shot dead by police in an alleged encounter on Tuesday.

The victim was identified as Alyas Awan, son of Mohammad Riaz Awan of Gujranwala. It was reported that Alyas, who had already been arrested by the police in connection with robbery incidents in Wahdat Colony and Iqbal Town, was shot dead by Misri Shah police on the direction of SP City. SHO Misri Shah Husnain Haider Shah along with a sub-inspector Allah Rakha took Alyas to a derelict area where they staged a fake encounter and shot at him. However, police claimed that Alyas had snatched a bike and was on his way back when police signalled him to stop, on which he opened firing at the police. Police retaliated in the same fashion. He received bullet injuries and died.

SUICIDE: A 17-year-old youth committed suicide by taking poisonous pills in the Garden Town area on Tuesday.It was reported that Suleman, who hailed from Okara, had ended his life by swallowing poisonous pills over an unknown issue. Police handed over the body to the family.

trivial issue: A 32-year-old man was killed by his colleague in the Lower Mall area on Tuesday.

The victim identified as Tariq worked in a shoe factory. As per initial information, the victim Tariq was murdered by his colleague who worked in the same factory as supervisor. The accused slit open the throat of the victim with a shovel over a minor issue. Police shifted the body to morgue. No case was registered till the filing of this report.

Girl stabbed, injured: A 22-year-old girl was stabbed and wounded by a man in the limits of Civil Lines police station on Tuesday.The injured girl was identified as Khadija of Gulberg. As per police, the injured girl along with her driver came to a local school in a car to pick up her sister Sofia when an unidentified bike rider approached Khadija in front of a local hotel and attacked her with a knife, inflicting several injuries on her body. The car driver tried to overpower the attacker who rode away from the scene. The injured girl was rushed to hospital where her condition was said to be out of danger, acting SHO SI Arshad said.
