Teams formed to arrest seven absconding officials

FAISALABAD: Anti-Corruption Establishment Regional Director Muhammad Ayub Khan has constituted special teams to arrest seven accused officials in the fake arms licences case.

Reportedly, seven officials of the DCO Office Arms Licensing Branch had allegedly issued more than 5,000 fake licenses from 2009 to 2015.

The absconding officials are Peter Yousaf Saifur Rehman, Muhammad Afzal, Tanvir Hussain, Ahmad Zahid, Syed Masood, Rana Yasin and a former clerk.

CONVICTED: Anti-Terrorism Court Special Judge Raja Pervaiz Akhtar on Thursday awarded life term on two counts to Masood Ahmad Khichi in abduction for ransom case.

The prosecution said that the convict had abducted Ashiq, a resident of Madina Town, after calling him to his house. Later, the convict released him after receiving Rs 800,000 ransom. The other convicts in the case, including ASI Muhammad Anwar, Hafiz Liaqat Ali and Rab Nawaz, had already been awarded life imprisonment on two counts.

KILLER GETS DEATH: Additional Sessions Judge Arshad Mehmood on Thursday awarded death sentence to accused Khaliqur Rehman, a resident of Chak 27/JB, in a murder case registered with Thikriwala police.

The court, however, acquitted another accused Muhammad Ramzan, giving him the benefit of the doubt. The prosecution said that the convict had killed his friend M Sohail Akram in 2009.

EXTORTIONIST BOOKED: Mansoorabad police have registered a case against an unidentified extortionist for demanding Rs 5 million ransom from a man.

Zahid Hussain reported to police that the accused had also threatened him of dire consequences.

In another case, Jhang Bazaar police registered a case against an unidentified caller for demanding Rs 2 million extortion from a man. The cases have been registered under Section 25-D of the Telegraph Act.
