Court permits Dr Asim to visit UAE embassy
Karachi
An accountability court (AC) on Tuesday granted permission the detained former federal petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain to visit United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) embassy and foreign office. He had moved the application because he had to ‘get some papers signed’.
The court after hearing arguments of the detainees’ attorneys as well as NAB’s prosecutor deemed it fit to grant Dr Hussain the permission to visit the UAE embassy. The prosecutor had, however, strongly opposed the plea.
His counsel argued that it was not necessary to approach all the courts concerned since he was in judicial custody and not on a physical remand, hence, it was fair to obtain permission from one court that would be applicable for others as well. Dr Hussain was facing charges of having committed corruption of Rs462 billion and providing medical treatment to terrorists and criminals at his medical facility.
