PESHAWAR: Five persons were injured in a hand grenade attack on Pajaggi Road on Monday. The superintendent of police (SP) Cantt Peshawar Kashif Zulfiqar said unidentified attackers hurled hand grenade at a building owned by Haji Nasrullah on Pajaggi Road. The official said three persons Tawas Khan, Aamir and Sarfaraz were wounded in the attack.

The Lady Reading Hospital later said five injured were brought to the hospital one of whom, Jannat Gul, was in a critical condition.Police officials said the attack was related to extortion calls. The same building was also attacked with hand grenade a few weeks back. “Only cattle head were hit in the previous attack. They had installed cameras and arranged guards but at the time of the incident the gate was open as they were cleaning the compound,” said Kashif Zulfiqar.

Police and other law-enforcement agencies seem helpless in going after the extortion gangs as majority of the calls for the purpose are being made from Afghanistan. The issue was taken up with the army authorities and the federal government but there seems no end to the attacks.
