Punjab lead Inter-Provincial Games

KARACHI: Punjab on Sunday were leading with seven gold, six silver and five bronze medals in the First Quaid-e-Azam Inter-Provincial Games being held at the Pakistan Sports Complex in Islamabad.

As per statistics provided by Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) on Sunday, Punjab (235 points) led the medal-tally.

They were followed by Balochistan (139 points) with four gold, one silver and four bronze medals. Sindh (101 points) were trailing third with one gold, four silver and two bronze.

Islamabad (1 silver, 5 bronze), FATA (1 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze) and Azad Kashmir (1-0-2) were in the next three positions. Gilgit-Baltistan were yet to clinch any medal.

In athletics, Punjab were leading with two gold, two silver. Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa grabbed one bronze each in the men’s competitions.

In high jump, Omar Ihtisham of Punjab won gold, Zeeshan of Punjab claimed silver, while Afzal Ahmed of Balochistan secured bronze medal.

The javelin throw gold went to Punjab’s Mohammad Yasir. Abu Sufyan of Punjab and Shahab Khan of KP secured silver and bronze medal, respectively.

In women’s competitions, Punjab got one gold, one silver and one bronze.

AJK’s Nabila Riaz claimed long jump gold, Shafaq of Sindh took silver, while Asmat Rehmat of Punjab claimed bronze medal.

In javelin throw, Gul Naz of Punjab got gold, Sadia of Punjab took silver, while Hina of Islamabad captured bronze medal.

Nouman Khan of Sindh and Mehran Javed of KP blasted their way into the men’s singles squash final.

In the semi-finals, Nouman beat Asif Khalil of KP 3-2 and Mehran defeated Ammad Fareed of Punjab 3-1.

Aimen Shehbaz of Punjab and Zahab Khan of Sindh moved into the women’s singles final of squash competitions.

Aimen whacked Neha Kamal of Sindh 3-0, while Zahab edged Komal of KP 3-1.

In men’s team event table tennis slots, Punjab beat Islamabad 3-2, AJK overpowered Gilgit-Baltistan 3-2. FATA beat Balochistan 3-2 and Sindh overwhelmed KP 3-0.

In tennis, Arham Attiq of Islamabad, Barkatullah of KP and Kashan-ul-Haq of Islsmabad qualified for the men’s singles semi-finals.

Hania Naved of Sindh, Maryam Mirza of Punjab, Shimza Naz of Punjab and Rida Khan of Sindh qualified for the women’s singles semi-finals.

In female judo, Arwa of KP won gold in minus 48kg. Fakhrunnisa of Balochistan and Samia of Islamabad got dilver and bronze, respectively.

Hamda of Punjab won gold in minus 52kg. Gulshan (Punjab) and Saleha Mohsin of Sindh claimed silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Shumaila of Punjab won gold in minus 57Kg. She was followed by Samia from Gilgit-Baltistan and Tayyaba from Islamabad with silver and bronze medals, respectively. In minus 63kg, Kashaf from Punjab clinched gold. Kinza from Sindh and Hasina from Gilgit-Baltistan got silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Samina Bano of Gilgit-Baltistan won gold in minus 70kg. Adila from Punjab and Asma Ali from Balochistan captured silver and bronze medals, respectively.

In men’s judo, Hijrat Ullah of KP won gold in minus 60kg. Hamid Ullah from FATA and Jazib from Punjab got silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Umar from Punjab secured gold in minus 66kg. Noor from Balochistan and Asif from KP got silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Musham from Punjab won gold medal in minus 73kg. Junaid from KP and Nadeem from FATA won silver and bronze, respectively.

In minus 81kg, Qaiser from FATA clinched gold. Waqas from Punjab and Naimat from KP got silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Hamza from Punjab won gold in minus 90kg competition. Haseeb from Sindh and Haroon from AJK calimed silver and bronze, respectively.

Rehman from Punjab won gold in minus 100kg, while Mohammad Ahsan from Sindh and Waheed got silver and bronze medals, respectively. In 100 and plus slots, Afan from Punjab clinched gold, while Abdullah from Sindh and Khalid from FATA got silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Sindh won women’s squash team event. Punjab claimed silver and KP captured bronze. KP won men’s squash event. Sindh and Punjab got silver and bronze medals, respectively.
