Islamabad: In a bid to bridge the communication gap between madrassah and university students, youth groups from Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and South Punjab collaborated to organise a cricket match in Islamabad on Thursday.
Organised with the financial support of Pakistan Youth Change Advocates (PYCA), the unique initiative was meant to use sports to bring the two parts of the society closer to each other. The event also provided an opportunity to the two diverse groups to work in close collaboration so that they are able to remove misconceptions and learn from one another.
“I realised that we have more in common than I thought. The whole experience has been something that I will never forget. I have made new friends from a completely different circle and I am hoping to learn a lot of new things from them”, shared Abdul Aziz, a student of Madrassah Khair-ul-Meeyad.
As a lead-up to the match in Islamabad, during the first week of April cricket matches were held in the city of Multan and Muzaffarabad between different local teams and the winning teams then met in Islamabad for a final play-off. At the conclusion of the event, a prize distribution ceremony was held.
