‘Ghost’ teachers unearthed in Khyber Agency

LANDIKOTAL: Authorities in Khyber Agency have unearthed several “ghost teachers” who have been receiving millions of rupees as salaries for the last 10 years. Agency Education Officer (AEO) Abdur Rauf Shah and Assistant Political Agent of Landikotal Rahimullah Khan Mahsud told The News that they had detected two ghost teachers.

Abdur Rauf said that initially two such cases were opened to conduct deep inquiry. He said former education officials, with the help of accounts officials, had made several fake appointments. He said they would soon make public other cases of wrongdoings in the education office as well.

Rauf said they had also received a written complaint from the political agent of Khyber Agency, asking officials to file report about two fake primary schoolteachers (PSTs), identified as Faridullah and Rukhsat Bibi, who had been appointed in 2006 in paperwork.

He said both the aforesaid PST teachers had no official record for the past 10 years as they did not attend any of the state-run schools in Khyber Agency.He said the Khyber Agency accounts office also confirmed the two ghost teachers who had released their salaries since 2006 till March 2016.

When contacted, Salim Wazir and Kabir Afridi, memebrs of the probe committee, said that they would complete and submit the report within three days. They said the findings would be submitted to the agency education officer who would then make it public.
