220 illegal structures demolished in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: The district administration on Tuesday demolished? 220 illegal structures, including shops, markets and houses, on Canal Road in Afghan Colony.

Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Riaz Khan Mahsud had earlier held meetings with the local people and directed them to remove the illegal structures.Sajid Khan, a spokesman for the Peshawar district administration, said the deputy commissioner had issued notices to them to peacefully remove the illegal structures.

“The operation against encroachment in the area was launched after the people to remove their illegally built structures,” he added.Assistant commissioners Abdul Nabi and ?Bashir Ahmad supervised the operation where senior officials of the Irrigation Department were also present.

The district administration used heavy machinery to demolish shops, markets and houses and retrieved the public property.The ?administration had deployed a large number of police personnel for maintaining order during the operation against encroachment.
