Cop gunned down in Swat
MINGORA: A cop was killed and another sustained injuries in yet another incident of target killing as unidentified gunmen opened fire on a car in Shahdarra area in Swat on Tuesday, police officials said.
They said the gunmen fired at a car near the vegetable market in Shahdarra locality in Mingora city. As a result, they said, Sub-Inspector Muhammad Ilyas was killed on the spot while another cop, Yousaf Shah, sustained injuries in the incident.
Muhammad Shah belonged to Shangla district while Yousaf Shah is a resident of Totakan area in Batkhela in Malakand Agency. They said the slain cop had come to Mingora for appearing in a case in a court. The body and injured cop were shifted to a hospital. The accused managed to escape.
The security forces and police launched a door-to-door search operation in the area soon after the incident. Sources said the law enforces had arrested several suspected persons during the search operation.
