FIA, Fuuast put on notice over VC’s plea against harassment
Karachi
Notices were issued to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), administration of the Federal Urdu University of Arts Science and Technology (Fuuast) and others by the SHC on a petition of former vice chancellor of the varsity against FIA’s alleged harassment.
Petitioner Dr Zafar Iqbal maintained that he was removed from the post of VC on August 10, 2015 on false and baseless allegations of corruption, which were challenged before the Islamabad High Court.
The petitioner’s counsel, Shakeel Ahmed, submitted that the petitioner was being harassed by the FIA despite him not having committed any illegal act.
He maintained that officials of the investigative agency were bent upon implicating his client in concocted cases due to the influence of Fuuast’s chancellor.
The harassment was described as constant calls by FIA officials to the petitioner at his office to threaten him, the counsel further added.
The court was requested to direct the FIA to not lodge or register any case against the petitioner without having acquired a prior permission from the court and restrain them from harassing or threatening the petitioner.
Following a preliminary hearing, the court issued notices to the varsity’s administration, FIA and others for April 27; the respondents were further asked to pursue an inquiry in accordance with the law.
