PA secretariat receives resignations of two ex-MQM MPAs
Karachi
The resignations of two renegade MPAs of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were finally received by the Sindh Assembly Secretariat, a month after Dr Sagheer Ahmed and Mohammad Iftikhar Alam announced to jump ship to the new political party led by former city nazim Mustafa Kamal.
Sindh Assembly Secretary GM Umar Farooq confirmed on Wednesday that his office had received the resignations of both former MQM lawmakers.
Talking to the media, he said he was reviewing the resignations and after completion of the due process, he would forward them to the Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani to take the final decision.
Answering a question, Farooq said he had received the resignations of both MPAs a few days ago via courier service.
He made the announcement on the day another Muttahida lawmaker, Bilquis Mukhtar, who was elected on the reserved seat for women, also changed sides and joined the Pak Sarzameen Party led by Mustafa Kamal.
Dr Sagheer Ahmed, an MPA elected from PS-117, had announced to quit MQM and forfeit his Sindh Assembly seat in a press conference held on March 7 at the new DHA residence of Mustafa Kamal. Dr Ahmed states in his resignation: “I, Dr Sagheer Ahmed s/o Ekram Uddin Ahmed Jamalvi, was elected as a member of the Provincial Assembly Sindh from PS-117 Karachi on 11 May, 2013. I have resigned from the membership of MQM, on the ticket of which I was elected.
I have mentioned a few reasons in my press conference on 7th March, 2016. Now, after this situation I am resigning from the seat PS-117 of the Provincial Assembly Sindh. I request you to kindly accept my resignation and issue my resignation notification.”
Mohammad Iftikhar Alam, elected from PS-106, had announced to leave MQM and resign as its legislator in his press conference on March 10, 2016.
He states in his resignation: “I, Mohammad Iftikhar Alam s/o Mohammad Sardar Alam, was elected as a member of the Provincial Assembly Sindh from PS-106 on 11 May, 2013. I have resigned from the membership of MQM, on the ticket of which I was elected, as I have mentioned few reasons in my press conference on 10th March, 2016. Therefore, I am resigning from the seat PS-106 of the Provincial Assembly Sindh. I request kindly accept my resignation”.
