Robbers get away with Rs8m in year’s fifth bank heist
Karachi
Six dacoits were reported to have made away with Rs8 million in the city’s fifth bank heist this year, on Tuesday.
According to police the robbers, armed with guns, pulled up on three motorcycles in front of the Meezan Bank branch situated in Korangi No.2 at about 10:00 am.
The suspects caught hold of the security guard Talib Hussain and snatched his weapon before entering the bank.
Bank staffers and customers were taken hostage while the cashier was asked to hand over all the cash, according to the bank manager.
The Korangi police said according to information collected through eyewitnesses the robbers appeared to be middle-aged and were well dressed.
The police claimed to have taken the CCTV recording of the incident in their possession and had also called for the sketches of the robbers to be developed.
In the fourth bank heist of the year, on February 17, six robbers had managed to make away with Rs0.7 million from a bank located near Korangi Crossing.
The men were said to have pulled up outside the Dubai Islamic Bank at around 9:30 am. Four of them entered the bank, snatching the guards' weapons, and took the staffers and customers hostage.
On March 29, three security guards had managed to foil a robbery bid at a private bank in the Karimabad area. It was the second attempt by criminals to rob this bank within a week.
