3 more killed in KP rain-related incidents

BANNU/BISHAM: Three more persons were killed in rain-related incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday.Two internally displaced persons (IDPs) from North Waziristan Agency drowned in a pool of rainwater, official sources said.

They said two IDPs identified as Haroon and Umar were on the way in Tazeeri Chowk when they slipped into a pool of rainwater and drowned.The locals rushed to the spot and retrieved the bodies. The bodies were handed over to the family members for burial.

TAKHT BHAI: A minor girl was killed and three others sustained injuries in a roof collapse in Bagh Koroona, sources said. They said roof of the house of one Murad Ali collapsed due to recent rains. As a result, his four-year old daughter Laiba Bibi was killed while three others sustained injuries.

Following the incident, the locals and the officials of the Rescue-1122 rushed to the spot and retrieved the body and rescued the others in an injured condition.The injured, including Murad Ali, Sabiha Bibi and Bisma Bibi were rushed to the hospital where their condition was stated to be stable.

CHARSADDA: A teenage boy was killed and his two others sustained injuries in a roof collapse at Shahi Bagh area. They said roof of a dilapidated house caved in due to recent rains. As a result, 13-year old Hizbullah were killed.The locals rushed to the spot and retrieved the body and rescued the others in an injured condition.

BISHAM: The district administration in Shangla vacated the houses on the bank of Khan Khwar stream due to raising water level. Several houses had been washed away by the gushing water while roads in Bisham, Karora, Olander, Chakisar, Bisham-Raniyal road, Shahpur-Olander and other link roads could not be reopened after three days of the landsides and devastating flash floods in the district.

The residents were facing immense hardships due to closure of the link roads in various parts of the far-off mountainous district. On the other hand, several commuters were stranded at various places due to closure of Bisham-Kohistan road for the last several days.

The officials said that it would take the authorities a long time to repair the damaged portions of Bisham-Kirai and Bisham-Karora roads.Twenty-one persons had been killed in floods and rain related incidents in the district during the recent heavy torrential rains.

The rainwater and flash floods devastated infrastructure and played havoc with lives in the district.The affectees were forced to spend nights under the open sky as their houses had been damaged or either washed away by the gushing water.

District Nazim Niaz Ahmad and Member National Assembly belonging to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Ibad Khan and Member Provincial Assembly Muhammad Rashad Khan visited the flood affected areas of Raniyal and Shahpur and informed about the hardships of the affectees.

They directed the district administration to use every mean on their dispatch to reopen all the blocked roads in the district. They said the floods and heavy rains caused widespread devastation in the district and urged the federal and provincial governments to declare the district a calamity-hit.
