Minority president
According to media reports, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has asked that when a Muslim can become the president of India, why can a person belonging to a minority community not hold this post in Pakistan? Bilawal should know that Pakistan is an Islamic Republic being run under the guidance of the 1973 Constitution that was framed and passed by the National Assembly during the time of his grandfather, late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s, government.
Pakistan does not have a secular constitution like India. If a member from a minority community can become president in India, it is constitutionally justified and reasonable. However, in Pakistan, it is a constitutional requirement that all top state positions – president, PM, services chiefs, etc – must be occupied by Muslims.
