Hunar-e-Hawwa Mela continues to attract families

PESHAWAR: Families and girl students continued to visit the Hunar-e-Hawwa Mela on Saturday to see the products and handicrafts put on display and enjoy traditional programmes performed at the festival.

Organised by the Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (TCKP) for the skilled women entrepreneurs at the PIA Planetarium in Hayatabad, the event attracted a large number of children, families and female students who evinced keen interest in various products crafted by women.

Different competitions including fashion show, painting, kite-flying, Mehndi sketching, mushaira or poetry recital sessions, cooking and traditional music programmes were held.

Zeek Afridi, Shafaq Ali, Shena Gul and other famous artistes performed at the evening. They enthralled the audience with their melodious voices and performances.

The poetry recital sessions were also held at the tastefully and traditionally decorated stall set up for this specific item and the children and women enjoyed it alike.

Fashion show, modeling and traditional music programmes made the event colourful and attractive for the visitors.

The visitors said that the Hunar-e-Hawwa Mela or Artisans at Work Festival was the best platform for the skilled women entrepreneurs to showcase their products and handicrafts and boost income of their families.

They said the event would provide an opportunity to the women to exhibit their skills and talents. They said that more such events should be organized so that the skilled women could introduce their products to the outer world.

Artisans from all the regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are participating in the event.

Stalls have been established to display handicrafts, embroidery, Taghar work, Bannu Royal Khaadi, stone carving, Peshawari caps, wax painting, metal work, wood carving, artwork, calligraphy, ring making, sitar making, Chitrali Patti, Gandhara Art, Drooza chappal, Sarghashay, Charsadda chappal, maizaray work, Karawa work, Sarkha, Dandas, Parunay, pottery work, blacksmith work, Hazara Jisti Shawl and Moti work and a lot of other items.
