Robbers kill man on resistance in Shalimar
LAHORE
A 60-year-old man was shot dead by suspects on resistance in the Shalimar police limits on Saturday.
Police said that the victim, Muhammad Tufail, was leaving his home when two unidentified suspects tried to rob him on his doorstep. He offered resistance, to which they shot at him. The victim received injuries and died on the spot. Police removed the body to morgue for autopsy, collected forensic evidence from the crime scene and recorded the statements of eye-witnesses.
Rangers kill two smugglers: Two alleged smugglers were shot dead by Pakistan Rangers near the Wagah border on Saturday early.
An official of Rangers said unidentified suspects were trying to cross the border near Wagah at night. The Rangers officials ordered them to stop but they started running, to which they opened fire. As a result, the suspects received injuries and died on the spot. On search, the Rangers recovered drugs from their custody.
Two injured: Two passersby were injured when a gutter of drainage exploded due to the filling of gas in Baghbanpura police limits on Saturday.
Police said that the gutter exploded with a blast. As a result, two passersby received minor injuries. A heavy contingent of police reached the spot on information. They shifted the victims to a nearby hospital where they were discharged after treatment. Police also collected forensic evidence and registered the statements of eye-witnesses. The explosion created panic in the locality and a large number of nearby people gathered there.
booked: District Coordination Officer (DCO) Lahore Captain (retd) Muhammad Usman chaired a high level meeting at the Town Hall to review the arrangements regarding various issues including dengue, parking and marriage hall timings.
All the town administrations including TMOs and other CDGL officials attended the meeting and informed the DCO about the progress report related to the abovementioned issues.
Meanwhile, on the directives of DCO Lahore, the price control magistrates inspected 714 shops in the city and issued challans to 13 shopkeepers and imposed 15,000 fine on them for overcharging.
The price control magistrates raided the shops and got registered cases against 49 shopkeepers and arrested 80 vendors for overcharging.
cheating: Some 88 unfair means cases (UMCs) were registered against candidates by the Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education (BISE) Lahore during the Secondary School (Matriculation-Class-9) annual examination 2016.
The class-9 exams concluded with the paper of Pakistan Studies on Saturday. Over 250,833 candidates appeared in the exams this year out of which 119,100 were girls. The BISE Lahore had established 812 exam centers for the exam across its jurisdictional area.
