Manager of private company killed for resisting robbery bid

A private company’s manager was shot dead by muggers in Mithadar while three robbers were killed in encounters in other parts the city on Saturday.

Abdul Ghani, 40, was travelling to work through Shahra-e-Liaquat when two men riding a motorcycle intercepted him at the New Chali bus stop and tried to rob him. When he put up resistance, they shot and injured him. 

A police mobile patrolling a street nearby saw the incident and approached the suspects. The robbers opened fire, which police returned and arrested one of them, identified as Jawad Bashir, with a pistol. The other robber fled, however.

SHO Saeeda Ghazala of Mithadar Police Station said Ghani, a resident of the New Chali area and manager at Amin Group of Companies, was taken to Civil Hospital Karachi, where he succumbed to a single bullet wound to the chest. 

She said the suspect was a notorious criminal who had earlier been arrested for similar crimes but was later granted bail. The man was also wanted in three cases in Kharadar and a case lodged at Docks Police Station. 

Sindh IGP A D Khawaja announced a reward of Rs25000 for the Mithadar police party, which arrested the robber.

Robbers killed

Police killed a notorious robber and arrested another with weapons in an encounter in the Bangla Bazaar area.

SSP Azfar Mahesar Pakistan Bazaar police, on a tip-off, raided a place, where the two men opened fire. The police retaliated and after an exchange of fire arrested Shamshad Malik alias Nomi and Mumtaz alias Munna Topi in an injured condition.

Two TT pistols and a hand grenade were seized from their possession. The suspects were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where Mumtaz died.

SSP Mahesar said Mumtaz was the leader of a gang, which was involved in more than 30 cases of street crimes, attempts to murder and police encounter.  Late on Friday night, a police team of Malir Cantt killed two alleged bandits who had snatched a sugar-laden truck in Gadap.

SSP Rao Anwaar of District Malir said that information was received by Gadap City Police Station that unidentified men had snatched the truck from the highway.

During snap-checking near Check Post No/ 6, police signalled the truck driver to pull over but the bandits opened fire.  Police retaliated and after an encounter arrested the suspects in an injured condition. A third suspect fled. The injured were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where they were pronounced dead. Two TT pistols were found on them.
