Rangers get custody of man ‘who killed lawyers in Tahir Plaza’

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) allowed the paramilitary Rangers on Saturday to keep a Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) activist detained for three months to question him over his alleged involvement in the Tahir Plaza attack that left several lawyers dead in 2008.
A law officer told the court that Najeeb Alam was arrested in Saddar on charges of carrying out terrorist activities and facilitating other criminals.
The court endorsed the apprehension order issued under Section 11-EEEE of tge Pakistan Protection Act. The court however directed that a joint interrogation team should be formed within 15 days.
A Rangers officer told the court that Alam admitted during the initial interrogation that he killed several advocates by setting them on fire in Thair Plaza in 2008.
