Rangers kill four ‘Taliban terrorists’ in Manghopir shootout

Rangers gunned down four alleged Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan terrorists in an encounter in Manghopir on Monday night.

The Rangers spokesperson said the paramilitary force raided a hideout and in the ensuing exchange of fire with the terrorists there, killed four of them.

Two Rangers soldiers were also injured in the shootout.

The spokesperson said the paramilitary force had called for reinforcements and cordoned off the area while searching for the remaining terrorists. Weapons were found at the hideout.

‘Target killer’ held

Rangers also said they had arrested a suspected target killer. The spokesperson said Rangers conducted a raid in Ranchore Line area and arrested Ijaz, son of Shahzad.

He added that Ijaz is affiliated with a notorious militant wing and the in-charge of its Unit-154, Azizabad.

He was produced before an anti-terrorism court on Monday which granted Rangers his 90-day preventive detention.

Ijaz initially confessed to his involvement in seven target killings in Karachi and also in extortion cases.

Slain ‘terrorists’ identified

The counter-terrorism department identified the two terrorists who were killed in an encounter in Quaidabad area on Saturday night.

The CTD said the two men, Mohammad Arshad alias Lalu alias Shahab alias Asad alias Shabbir alias Abdul Ghani and Mohammad Umair, both affiliated with al-Qaeda Indian Subcontinent

Arshad was presently working as the chief of banned AQIS in Karachi. Since from the year 2000 he was active in militancy and remained in contact with different banned organizations. The accused had expertise in making improvised explosive devices and also possess expertise in making cyanide injection.

Customs recovery

The Custom Preventive during their operation at Jinnah International Airport  seized 950 cell phones.

Irfan Ali of the Pakistan Custom said that, the Custom Preventive deployed at Airport were tip off had led a search of four baggage which were unclaimed and came to Karachi via flight EK-618 from Dubai.

A thorough search of all the luggage was conducted and when they had opened the luggage recovered 950 cell phones of different companies which worth million of rupees.
